Student Form
Name: Andrew Steven Ranger "Drew"
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Physical Appearance: His appearance was very casual. He had dark brown hair, that would never look neat no matter how much he combed it. His eyes were a bluish-green color, that would change depending on the lighting. He stood around 6 ft tall and weighed about 140lbs, a little bit on the skinny side. He usually dressed in a pair of jeans, t-shirt, and a gray sweatshirt.
Personality: He has that "invincible" feeling to him, like nothing could ever hurt him. He tends to be wild and crazy. When riding he goes at breakneck speeds, usually dangerously and recklessly. As well as being reckless he is funny. He knows how to tell a joke. Sometimes hurting people in the process without meaning to. He would be considered the class clown, at times annoying, and crazy. Not really caring in school, but not slacking off either. He got his work done, when he felt like it.
History: Andrew, known as Drew by most, grew up in an average home. His father left when he was only 5, and doesn't talk to the family besides an occasional Christmas or birthday card. His mother worked 2 jobs and was rarely at home during his childhood. Drew was usually in charge for taking care of his little brother, Matthew, while his mom worked. He started riding at the age of 11, but has loved horses since he was 7. When he was 7 he discovered a small riding stable down the road from his house and visited it almost every day. He loved to watch the horses run, and gallop, as well as how the riders easily steered them around the arena, over jumps, through poles. He was amazed at how this wild animal was so easily driven. When he was 11 he was given his first chance to ride a horse. To pay off lessons he would work at the stables pretty much everyday earning money that went directly towards lessons. 5 years later he is now one of the most experienced teenager at the stable. He can ride any horse there, in any discipline and ride them well. He has come to the academy on scholarship as his family is not able to afford the admission fee. He isn't the best academically, but he can ride a horse.
Sample Post:
Drew led the dark bay gelding over to the mounting ramp and lined him up. He set the reins of the neck and walked up ramp to hop on. He slipped his foot into the stirrup and lifted himself into the saddle, sitting down softly. The horse started walking casually forward towards the ring. Drew picked up his reins and pulled back saying,
“Woah now, not yet”
He adjusted his stirrups and then picked up his reins correctly and asked for the horse to walk on. He leaned down to open the gate to the ring, then walked through. He turned the horse around and closed the gate before setting off at a nice marching walk. The reins were long, the horses neck stretched out relaxing getting warmed up. After about 2 times around the ring Drew picked up his reins and signaled for a trot. He posted lightly on top of the geldings lofty gate. It was a lazy, unengaged trot. Drew wiggled his whip near the geldings butt and squeezed with his thighs. The geldings lifted his hind legs under himself a bit more and started working a little harder. After a couple times both directions around the ring, Drew reached his outside leg just behind the girth and squeezed up. The gelding immediately took the queue and picked up another lofty canter. It was slow at first, but after half way around it picked up momentum and speed.
After 3 times each direction Drew slowed to walk and exited the arena for a trail ride. Picking a shady looking path heading east he picked up a trot and trotted relaxingly down the trail. The autumn leaves fluttering around under the geldings hoofs. The trees started to become more dense so Drew slowed to walk and dropped his reins and stirrups relaxing with the geldings walk. He thought about how he had been accepted to the academy, and how he probably wouldn’t ride this trail till next summer. How he wouldn’t be able to ride this horse, Diablo, who practicly taught him how to live. The trees started to become more scarce and a clearing was seen off in the distance. Drew started to pick up his reins as Diablo flicked his ears back knowing what was coming next. Alex leaned up in the saddle laid the reins up on the geldings next and signaled the gallop. Diablo took off, almost flying through air as if there was no rider on his back.
As they reached the clearing Drew sat back in the saddle and slowed Diablo up. He patted his neck and said,
“Good boy. I will never forget how much fun that is.”
Diablo shook his neck, and blew strongly out his nose, walking now at an almost prancing pace. Drew signaled the trot and loosened his reins letting Diablo stretch his neck and legs as they ambled along the trail. After another good 15 minutes they walked slowly back to the stable. The sun was setting just behind the barn, a horse being turned out for the night in a field was just a shadow. Drew dismounted and led his horse into the barn to be brushed and taken care for the night.
