Taylor walked into the stables early in the morning. A horse was next to her being lead by a lead rope. The horse was brown and white with some dark brown spots near his rear. His brown tail swished at the flies that hung around. He neighed.
"Shh...It's okay Chance...Calm down..." the girl said and the horse calmed himself. The voice of the girl calmed him.
Taylor walked towards Chance's stable. His name had been engraved in a gold plate and her name was underneath. A grin slid across her face.
"When Dad said they were highscale he meant it didn't he?" she asked the horse with a giggle. She was already beginnning to love it here. She tied Chance to a pole so she could groom him. She looked through the tack box and found what she was looking for. She had a curry comb and a comb and started to brush through his hair and his mane and tail. She smiled as he licked her hand when she gave him a sugar cube.
"I love you Chance..." she whispered to him. She wondered if anyone else was up this early.

A huge yawn escaped Kathy's mouth as she made her way down to the stables. A warm fleece coat was pulled tight around her, keeping the chilly wind out. It was the end of fall, and you could definitly feel it. With all the leaves off the trees, the cold weather was beginning to set in and before you knew it, it was going to be snowing. Kathy just shivered at the thought of it. Although she loved the snow and the beautiful winters here at Red Wind, Kathy was normally a cold person so the winters were not exactly comfortable for her. She could see her breath before her as she walked down to the stables, dressed in some jeans with half chaps pulled over her paddock boots. She was hoping to get some quality time in with her baby before classes started for the day. Kathy was one of few students that actually got up early for weekday rides, but Kathy had been a morning person all her life, she just couldn't help it.
The shelter of the barn was a nice relief from the nippy breeze and as Kathy entered it, her muscles automatically relaxed. As part of her morning routine, she went over to the radio, turning it on so that she wouldn't be working in complete silence. That was one thing about Kathy, she always had to have noise. Complete silence freaked her out. It was only when she turned to grab a pitch fork from the wall that she noticed the girl and horse being groomed. She wandered through her brain, trying to remember if she had met this girl before. Kathy concluded that she had not and put on a polite smile.
"It's good to know I'm not the only early riser." She said, laughing a little as she passed, pitchfork in hand.

Taylor turned and smiled. The girl she saw was bundled in a fleece coat. Taylor had been wearing a simple jacket that had faux fur inside of it. It kept her plenty warm seeing as her house used to be really cold. Her smile stayed on her face.
"Apparently not.." she said still smiling. Taylor hadn't had time to see anyone here yet. She had just come here to put Chance in his stable and take him out for a ride. Maybe she would make a friend.
"I'm Taylor. I'm new here." she said with a shrug. Chance's eyes rested on the girl and he nudged Taylor making her stumble but she didn't fall.
"Chance..." she mumbled. "This is Chance...a good horse but sometimes a real pain in the rear." she said laughing and Chance nudged her again as if to say 'Hey now!' Taylor rolled her eyes at the horse. Chance ate some hay and got a drink of water before his eyes settled upon the girl again.

"I'm Kathy. Nice to meet you both." Kathy said, laughing at Chance. He reminded her of her own horse, Donnie. They both had huge personalities. "Well, Welcome to Red Wind." Kathy said with a friendly smile. Any new student who met Kathy in their first couple days was really lucky. Kathy was just the type of person to be nice to everyone, especially strangers whom she didn't know yet. Kathy looked down at the pitchfork in her hand. Oh, I'll do it later. She procrastinated, leaning the pitchfork up against the wall. She walked over to a stall where a big gentle face popped out. Kathy smiled and rubbed Donnie's forehead. She loved seeing this guy first thing in the morning, it just started the day out right. Donnie nickered lowly as he greeted his owner, nudging her a little to say goodmorning.
"Are you riding?" She asked Taylor, hoping that she might have a riding buddy on this chilly morning.

"Yeah...I haven't been able to ride him in a while." she she said with a nod. She hadn't been able to ride him because her friends had invited her to Spain for the week with them. She went but wished she could have brought Chance. She had left Chance with her friend's horses at their stable.
Taylor grabbed a saddle blanket and a saddle and put in on Chance's back. "Red Wind seems like a fun place." Taylor told Kathy. She smiled. She actually did think Red Wind seemed fun, which was a whole new playing ground for her. The other schools she had gone to were really boring. Taylor wrapped her coat around her tighter. A breeze of wind had come through the doors. It had to be really nippy out there. She wished she had worn something else besides jeans. Oh well....You'll remember next time. she thought with a sigh. She went and got a bridle and put it in Chance's mouth. She made sure everything was right and hoisted herself onto Chance. "Ready whenever." she said.

Kathy smiled, glad to find that her first impressions were good ones. Seeing that her father was the owner, Kathy had always took pride in the school and loved to see people actually liking it. Kathy probably had the most school spirit of anyone in the school. She noticed that Taylor had already started tacking up her horse and Kathy decided that she had better hurry up.
"Yeah, I love it here." Kathy said, finnishing running a hard brush over Donnie's back.
"So, where did you move here from?" She asked, hoisting her english saddle and pad up and placing it gently on the big chestnut's back. She felt bad making Taylor wait, but she knew that it was important to put your tack on right and not rush.

Taylor checked that everything was right. She really didn't feel like making a fool out of herself. She did enough of that at other places. "No rush." she told Kathy. She smiled and put a piece of gum in her mouth. "Do you want a piece?" she asked her.
Chance whinnied. Taylor whispered in his ear and he calmed himself. She smiled and sat upright again. A few thoughts ran through her mind. She didn't want to be known as the new girl who talked to horses. [b"So..." was the only thing she was able to say.

Kathy adjusted last minute things on her tack and led Donnie out of his stall. Even though she hadn't given him a complete grooming, his coat still had a healthy shine to it. Donnie nudged her as they walked, as if to thank her for getting him out of that cramped stall. "No Thanks." Kathy said, politly turning down the gum. She actually did want a peice but it had been drilled into her head not to chew gum while riding. It was just second nature now.
As soon as the pair joined Taylor and Chance outside, Kathy mounted, her long legs easing herself down in the saddle. It was amazing that Kathy could get on that beast without a mounting block, but she was so used to, she didn't even notice it. "So, do you compete?" She asked. Kathy was an easy one to make conversation, especcially if it was about horses.

Taylor shrugged and put the gum back in her pocket. As they went outside she took in a deep breath of the air. "Yeah I compete...Sometimes..." she said. She did compete sometimes...Just it was sometimes too much of a thing to her. She rode for the love of it, not to compete. "What about you?" she asked trying to keep the conversation going. ((no muse which sucks...))

"Yeah, I do. Three-Day Eventing mostly." Kathy said, smiling. She couldn't help it, she was so happy when she competed, and so proud of herself for making it as far as she had. She wouldn't give up, not untill she had rode in the olympics, that was her goal. After a minute of standing, Donnie started to get anxious. He turned his head around to look at Kathy but then got distracted by the other horse. Man, did he have A.D.D. or what! He stuck out his nose curiously at Chance right when Kathy nudged his sides. He grumpily started walking forward, his neck stretched out, Kathy keeping him on a loose rein.
"Where should we ride?"
