There sat a sixteen year old girl mounted atop a breathtaking buckskin horse called Spades. The horse was well cared for with nice tan color and a shiny dark brown, almost black mane. This horse had been born and raised on the old Willis farm, but inside. . .inside he had the instinct of his wild ancestors. This animal knew that he was born to be free, it was in his blood.
The teen that sat atop him was a unique individual indeed, for she was born a country girl and no one could rip that out of her. That was one of the ways horse and girl were linked together, old roots would never die within their flaming hearts. After living in the city for the past year and only allowed the occasional visit to her beloved horse, this place felt like a dream. Heather Willis peered out with determined brown eyes at the acres of riding area that lay ahead. She wasn’t just going to ride, she was going to soar.
The girl may not have added a spectacular appearance to the astounding horse, nonetheless once they took off rider and beast would be one. Heather wore dark blue jeans that hugged around her slender figure. A plain, white ribbed tee covered her upper form and already it was covered in dirt from saddling up Spades in the stable. Black and white converse protected her feet that were placed in the saddle’s stirrups. Her layered bleach-blonde hair hung freely around her shoulders.
Heather placed her hands on the horses reins and clicked her tongue so they’d set off at a brisk walk. If anyone watched closely, they’d have seen the fiery look that flooded both horse and girl’s eyes. Her heart began to drum louder and louder into her ears. Suddenly, she gave Spades a swift tug on both sides of the reins. Heather’s body leaned in closer to Spades’ magnificent mane, and the horse took off like there was no tomorrow.
All that rang through Heather’s ears now was the whisper in the wind that increasingly snagged back her hair. Both girl’s and horse’s eyes lay only on what was straight ahead, the outdoor scenery just as astounding as the rush of the run. A large smile lit her face even through the pain that seered her chapped lips. Now this. . .this was a ride.
