It was a beautiful fall day. The leaves had just begun to change colors and the breeze was just right; not to cold but cool enough to keep from melting. The birds chirped their happy songs as they flew from tree to tree, and the clouds floated above without a care in the world. Kathy was lying in the warm, green grass on her stomach, her legs bent at the knees so that her feet were swinging in the air. School had just started and she couldn't wait. It may sound weird, but Kathy actually liked school better than in the summer months. The school would fill up with people and you could actually find someone to talk to, rather than only having your two brothers. See, Kathy lived at this school all around, since her father owned it, and she definitely liked it better when she was surrounded by her peers. She laid under the warm sun, flipping through the latest issue of Practical Horsemen, one of her favorite magazines. Kat, as her friends called her, wasn't really partial to reading long novels, but did enjoy reading every column and article in the horse magazines that were sent to her monthly.
She whistled a nameless tune as she swung her feet in the air, her blond hair pulled back in a lazy pony tail. Her khaki shorts showed off her long legs, her white polo shirt just completing the picture. She flipped through the pages, pictures of her favorite Olympic riders and tips on jumping a clear round caught her eye as she scanned. She read the article, picking up on little hints along the way that she stored in her brain and was sure to try next time she rode.

Damien walked around, quite aimlessly in fact. He wasn't quite bored out of his mind, he liked the prospect of living in a new area, living in an area away from his home town, which had become quite a scary place. Having a kid at age 16 can do that to ya. He was holding onto the boy at the moment actually. The little boy named Parker, 2 years old, clung to his daddies clothing as he was being carried. His eyes were wide, taking in his new surroundings. This place seemed to be huge, way bigger than the backyard he had back at his home.
Damien noticed a girl lying on her stomach in the grass, flipping through a magasine. Perhaps he could make friends here? It wouldn't hurt. It wasn't like he was going to be much of a rider here. He walked up to this girl, and looked down at the magasine she was flipping through. "Practical Horsemen eh?" He asked in his deep voice, looking down at the girl.

The sun felt so good on Kat's back as she flipped through the pages, looking at the pictures of the altheleticly gifted horses. An article congratulating a rider for making the olympic team caught her eye. Someday that will be me. She thought to herself, smiling. It was her life dream, to compete in the olympics. If she continued working as hard as she had been for the past couple years, she could probably make it. She started daydreaming about the day when she would ride into that arena, thousands of eyes on her, watching her take up the gold medal. She was so far into her daydream that when she heard the deep voice behind her, she jumped a little, snapped out of her trance. She giggled slightly as she turned around to face the guy, a little embarrased that he had just startled her.
"Yep." She said with a smile, her bangs falling into her face. She noticed the little todler clinging on to the man and waved to him.
"So, do you always sneak up on people like that?" She asked playfully, glad that someone had talked to her. It seemed like most people were new this year and she was ready and willing to meet all of them.

Interesting. Damien said, looking at the magazine, then at the girl, who had just finished asking him if he always snuck up on people. Damien laughed as Parker waved back at the girl. "Yes." He answered, seating himself on the grass beside her. "I'm Damien, and this is Parker." Damien introduced them to the girl. Parker wiggled out of Damien's arms and started to shred grass. Damien rolled his eyes at his kid, and looked at the blonde girl who was laying on her stomach.
"So... what are you up to?" Damien asked, although he clearly could see the answer. She was looking through a horse magazine. This place was full of horses, horse lovers, and everything else that had to do with horses.
(( Blah, sorry its so short ))

"Hi. I'm Kathy." She said with a smile, putting her hair behind her ear. She laughed as the guy answered with a yes that he always snuck up on people. Her eye wandered over to the todler that was now having his way with the green grass. She smiled and turned back to the guy when a thought popped into her head. Whoes kid was this? Could it really be this guy, a student? Kathy thought how hard it must be to have a child at such a young age.
A group of students walked by, waving at Kathy. She smiled back and waved, happy to know just about everyone at this school. "Nothing much, just enjoying the amazing weather." Kathy answered, swinging her tan legs back and forth.
((Don't worry about it, me too!))

Damien nodded, looking over his shoulder to see who Kathy was waving at, then looked back at the girl. It's nice to meet you Kathy. He said, then nodded his head again at her next statement. Yeah, it is a pretty nice day. He said, a smile forming on his face, he looked down at where Parker was, and apparently the little boy was getting tired of being bored in the grass and decided to get up and go for a little stroll.
Oh no you don't you big lug. Damien said, reaching over and picking his boy up from the ground and placing him in his crossed legs. Parker giggled at what his dad said, and then tried to wiggle out of Damien's grasp. The little guy didn't have nearly enough power or energy in him to get very far with the squirming, so eventually he gave up and turned around and started playing with Damien's face, grabbing his skin in what little hands he had and twisting it. Damien sighed and took Parker's hands away from his face. He looked at Kathy, he has been like this since... forever. I don't think he can sit still for more than a second. Damien said, rolling his eyes at his son and laughing.

Kathy laughed at the little boy trying to keep himself occupied. If Parker really was Damien's kid, she could see the resembelence. Kathy's fingers weaved themselves between the grass. She didn't know what it was but she loved the feeling of things in her hands. Whether it was grass, grain or sea beads, it was a guilty pleasure that she couldn't help. Kathy watched father and son interact and wished that she had had some younger siblings. She was the baby of the family and had two older brothers to deal with. Nowadays, she felt more like an only child, since both of her brothers were off at college.
"So, is he your brother?" She asked, biting her lip, hoping that she wasn't wrong. She just couldn't get into her head of being a father at such a young age. Needless to say, Kathy had lived a pretty sheltered life.

Damien looked at Kathy, stalling a little bit before answering. He opened his mouth, almost about to blurt out that Parker was his brother. But, he decided that wouldn't be a very good start to making friends here, but really, neither was telling them all he had a child of his own at 18. He closed his mouth, then tried again. Actually, I'm Parker's father. Damien said, a little nervously. Damien wasn't used to people asking about Parker, since he had just moved here and had lived in the same place for his whole life.
He knew this was probably a shock to Kathy, and he shrugged, and tousled Parkers hair, who looked up at him with a smile. Parker wondered why Damien's voice had changed, and he knew they were talking about him, and Damien being his dad. But he never thought it was weird or anything. He didn't have kids his age back at home, it was like the generation that wasn't there or something, and he was the only one born.

"Oh...cool." She said, an awkward smile making its home on her lips. She wish she could have taken that question back, she didn't mean to make things weird. Wow, so he was a father. Kathy couldn't fully wrap her mind around the concept of being a parent so young, but she concluded that she had alot to learn about the world today. She also couldn't believe she had said 'cool'. Embarresed thoughts were racing through her mind, wishing that she could have gone back just a few minutes and change that last questions.
"Well, I can see where he gets his good looks." She said with a laught, hoping that the situation would turn light again. Smooth Kathy. Real Smooth She thought to herself, glad that what she had just said didn't sound completely ridiculus. Kathy had never had this much trouble with what to say, although she also had never been in this situation. As she turned her attention on Parker for a moment, making the stupid faces that everyone does in the presence of children, she thought to herself. Wait, what did I just say? Is that flirting?" Kathy...flirting? Her eyes flashed back up to Damien and she gave a little smile.
((OOC: sorry, kinda...weird. Not usually my type of writing.))

Damien could tell Kathy was getting a little embarrased about the question she asked her, but secretly, Damien was glad she did. It was nice not to have to pretend or hide that Parker was actually his son instead of someone else's. He blushed slightly when Kathy said she knew where Parker got his good looks. Was Kathy flirting with Damien? That wasn't something Damien was used to, he tried to really ignore people and what they said to him, it gave him a sense of lonleiness though when he did, and it was actually nice to be able to talk to someone instead of walking away. Maybe his parents sending him here was doing Damien some good. "Well, thanks, I guess. Your not too bad lookin' yourself." Damien said, his voice sounded just a tad embarrased too. And okay, so maybe he was flirting back. But she didn't know that... did she?
Parker giggled when Kathy made funny faces at him, he tried copying her, but his little features just weren't as movable as her's and he ended up just having what looked like bloated cheeks. He laughed again and stuck his tongue out at Kathy. "Your funny." Parker said, a grin on his face.Damien rolled his eyes and laughed as well. Nice face. He said, smiling at Kathy in return.

Kathy felt her cheeks getting warm as Damien returned the complement. She didn't really know how to feel about this whole flirting thing, she was used to just being one of the guys. That's how she liked it. But then again, she wasn't sure she hated this flirting thing either. After realizing the stupid face that she had just made to Parker, she blushed even more. She hated when she made a fool of herself by making stupid faces at little kids. She just couldn't help it. Kids and animals.
"Thanks." She said with a hint of playful sarcasm. She giggled at Parker and racked her brain to think of a subject that wouldn't get her so embarrassed.
"So, do you ride horses?" She asked, automatically becoming more relaxed, the heat leaving her cheeks. That was the one topic that she knew she couldn't get into a corner with. She felt a little stupid asking if he rode when they were at a riding academy, but Kathy had learned that more students here than you would think, didn't come here to ride horses.

Damien knew Kathy would probably think he was nuts that he didn't like horses at all, and yet he was at a riding academy. But he desided it was safer and better to tell the truth to everyone here, so he had a chance at making friends. "No, and yes. I dont really like horses," Damien said, shrugging his shoulders as he said that, "but my little sister, Heather, is making me ride." He said, hiding the fact that he sort of liked riding, it was actually kind of fun.
"I'm guessing you do though, judging by the way you seem to like horses." He spoke to the girl again, nodding at the magasine to show her how he had gotten that assumption. Parker grinned as he looked at the two, then he giggled a bit and said, "I like the little ones.". Damien had to laugh at this, and shrug his shoulders again. Of course, Parker probably liked foals and ponies because they were more 'his height' and he could see them better when he wasn't being carried, and probably because there was less of a chance they'd hurt him.

Kathy let out a giggle at Parker. He was just so cute! She looked back up to his father, back to her normal self again, now that they were talking about her favorite subject.
"Yea, they're my life." She nodded, looking down to the magazine. It was still on the page of the Olympic rider and she smiled softly. She was closer to that then people thought. "Well, your sister must be pretty smart then." Kathy couldn't believe that this guy didn't like horses. That was one thing that she could not understand of other people, because according to her there were only two types of people, horse lovers and non-horse lovers. "You'll see, you'll start to like them. Especially if you continue hanging out with me." She laughed slightly, knowing that what she had said was the truth. Kathy almost couldn't be friends with non horsey people, they would just have nothing to talk about or do.
She looked down at Parker, understanding that he liked the smaller horses better. "Well, now that you are here, we have some really nice, small ponies that would be perfect for you."
((Sorry, It's kind of lame. And sorry I haven't posted in a little while, I went out of town and forgot to tell people. ))

Damien's laughter was a little louder than necessary. I highly doubt that I'll be converted to your horse.... ism. He said, rolling his eyes, but in a joking way. He had to admit, he didn't hate horses, like he used to. He could stand them now, and even ride them. Maybe we could take Parker for a pony ride sometime or something. He said, half-way trying to change the subject, but, it still was on horses. Damien looked around at the grassy area, no one else was around, so he looked back at Kathy.

Kathy laughed at Damien's resistance to the idea of him becoming a horse lover. She knew it would happen though, sometime. She lifted her eyebrows after he rolled his eyes, her face saying "oh..we'll see about that". At the suggestion that they should take Parker on a pony ride, Kathy nodded and smiled, looking down at the little tyke.
"How would you like to ride a pony named Scooter? Would you like that?" She asked him, looking him in the eye. This kid was just too cute.
((Oh don't worry about it at all, Me To!))
